Malaysia's Transport Minister Mr. Anthony Loke, responding to escalating accidents involving speeding heavy commercial and passenger vehicles, introduced compulsory Speed Limitation Devices (SLD) to curb irresponsible driving and reduce fatalities and damages.
The phased implementation began in October 2025, mandating SLD activation or installation for heavy vehicles, with full enforcement progressing through 2026.
The Malaysia's JPJ Speed Limitation Device (SLD) installation requirements are:
Goods vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW) must install/activate SLD.
Vehicles exceeding 5 tonne GVW and carrying more than 8 passengers must install/activate SLD.
Maximum cap set at 90 km/h for all applicable heavy vehicles and buses.
SLD functionality verification and certification renewed every 2 years.
